Parental cooperation is very important to us at Polarhagen Barnehage and is essential to providing the best possible care and support for every child. The Norwegian Kindergarten Act states that parents have the primary responsibility for their child’s upbringing. The kindergarten shall support parents in this responsibility, and close and trusting cooperation between the kindergarten and the family is therefore essential.
Before your child starts kindergarten, we arrange an introductory meeting with the parents to get to know the child and learn more about their individual needs. Parents and children are also very welcome to visit the kindergarten before the child starts.
At Polarhagen Barnehage, we value daily communication with parents during drop-off and pick-up. This gives us the opportunity to get to know each other in a natural and informal way and to exchange important information about the child’s day.
More formal communication takes place through parent meetings and individual parent conferences. We hold one parent meeting each year, usually in the autumn, where parents receive information about the kindergarten year.
All parents are offered an individual parent conference at least twice a year. Before each conference, staff will have observed and reflected on the individual child’s development, well-being, interests, and everyday experiences in the kindergarten.
The staff at Polarhagen Barnehage value parents’ views and encourage you to share your expectations, wishes, suggestions, and thoughts about the kindergarten and your child’s everyday experiences.
Our staff are also available if you would like guidance or support regarding your child’s development or parenting-related questions. When appropriate, we can also help you get in touch with relevant support services.
Parents also have the opportunity to participate in matters concerning the kindergarten through their representatives on the Cooperation Committee (Samarbeidsutvalget – SU), which includes representatives of both parents and staff.
