THE SETTLING-IN PERIOD

In close cooperation with parents, we aim to give every child a safe and positive start at kindergarten. During the first days, our staff provide close support to help your child feel safe, secure, and included while playing, exploring, and learning.

If possible, we encourage you and your child to visit us before the official start date. This gives your child an opportunity to become familiar with the kindergarten, the staff, and the other children.

Your child will have a designated key person who has a special responsibility for supporting them during the settling-in period. The key person will also guide you through the process and, together with you, plan a settling-in period that meets your child’s individual needs.

GOALS OF THE SETTLING-IN PERIOD

• To help your child become familiar with their new environment.
• To help your child develop a safe and trusting relationship with their key person.
• To help your child gradually feel secure at kindergarten without their parents present.
• To support your child in taking part in play, exploration, and everyday activities.

COORDINATED ADMISSION

To apply for a place at Polarhagen Kindergarten, you must register your application through Tromsø Municipality.

The application deadline for the main admission round is 1 March, but you may apply for a kindergarten place throughout the year.

FEES AND SIBLING DISCOUNT

The maximum parental fee for a kindergarten place is set nationally.

You pay for 11 months per year, with July being free of charge.

The stated price for a full-time place (100%) from August 2025 is NOK 1,200 per month, plus a meal fee of NOK 420 per month.

All meals are provided at the kindergarten.

Sibling discounts are provided in accordance with applicable municipal regulations.
