Habituation of new children

Habituation Before kindergarten starts • We encourage the child and family to visit the kindergarten before kindergarten starts. Just call to arrange this with the kindergarten in advance so that the staff can set aside time to receive you. • Talk regularly with your child about the start of kindergarten. • Tell staff about your child's language and communication skills, what your child likes and doesn't like. In this way, we can prepare to meet the child and understand it as best as possible. Contact us if you have any questions during :)

With us there is 1 contact person who receives the child and family. This person should help create security for the child. Once the attachment between the child and the contact person is established, it becomes easier for the child to develop good relationships with the other adults in the kindergarten.

The attachment person should introduce your child to other children, and be available to the child and you as guardians. The attachment person must also inform you about how the adaptation period will take place, about the kindergarten's routines, daily rhythm and other practical matters.

HABITUATION IN PRACTICE

Basically, at last 3 days of adaptation are set aside for the child together with parents in the kindergarten. However, we encourage all new parents to set aside extra days where you can be available for your child in case needed. And those who have the opportunity are welcome as much as you want to visit in the time before your child is about to start.

The child must have the parents nearby during the adaptation period while the child develops a relationship with his or her contact person.

The child gradually gets used to being separated from his parents by starting with short separations and gradually increasing.

In this way, the child can create experiences that the contact person can provide sufficient security.

The child's days should be short during the adaptation period.

The contact person actively tries to develop a close relationship with the child, and this with the help of parents

GOALS OF HABITUATION

Getting your child used to the new environment.

Giving the child the opportunity to get to know each other sufficiently and form a safe and trusting relationship with their contact person.

To accustom the child to being able to be in kindergarten, without parents and create a relationship with their contact person. In order to engage in play and exploration with the help and support of the parents.

The kindergarten shall, in cooperation with the parents, facilitate that the child can get a safe and good start in the kindergarten. When the child starts kindergarten, the staff must ensure close follow-up during the initial period so that the child can feel a sense of belonging and security to play, explore and learn (Framework Plan 2017)

DELIVERING THE CHILD TO KINDERGARTEN

Young children react differently to the parting in kindergarten. When the parent is about to leave, it is important that there is a clear handover, and that the parent says "bye!" This is because the child has to learn to trust that even if mom or dad leaves, they'll come back.

Although it can sometimes feel painful to leave your child, it's better to say proper "bye" before you go than to sneak away while the child is busy with something else. Otherwise, the risk is great that the child will keep an extra eye on mom / dad later so that they do not suddenly disappear.
